Dear
Fellow Teachers:

On this web site you will find performance based instructional tasks developed by
teachers from James McHenry Elementary School. These tasks are designed to
help your students apply the knowledge they have gained within the
classroom. These performance based tasks are aligned with the Baltimore
City Curriculum, Maryland State Learning Outcomes and Proficiency Levels,
and The Dimensions of Learning.
As with most educational web sites,
the tasks found here have been modified by the teachers that have used
them. As such, these tasks are constantly being extended and refined. With
this being our first web site, your feed back is very important. Please use
the comment section below to let us know what you think of the performance
based instructional tasks that are being offered. Thank you for your time
and interest in our web site.
Sincerely,
The Staff of James McHenry
Elementary School

Mission
James Mchenry supports
the mission of the Baltimore City Public Schools which is to provide an

every students physical, social, and intellectual potential by
providing varied educational, technical, and artistic experiences and
opportunities. The mission will be accomplished in close partnership with
students families, Baltimores businesses, community and service
organizations, local cultural institutions, and institutions of higher
learning. Additionally, our school seeks to guide students in establishing
positive goals for themselves by providing programs and activities in which
weaknesses can be strengthened and goals achieved. We further seek to
provide appropriate experiences in decision making that will fortify self

Performance Tasks
We are part of the
Baltimore City Public School System 1999-2000 Title I Saff Development
Program "Improving Student Achievement Through Quality Teaching."
The program offers 75 teachers and 15 administrators from 15 Title I
schools monthly opportunities to plan, teach, check, and act on the results
of performance-based lessons and assessments conducted in their schools.
The program will help us to improve student performance on both basic
skills tests and Maryland School Performance Assessment Program performance
assessments. Participating teachers are using interactive software --
TaskBuilder -- to develop performance instruction and assessment
tasks for basic skills, academic excellence, and real world applications.
TaskBuilder helps teachers to develop engaging lessons for basic skills,
higher order thinking skills and content standards, and integrated
curricula. It helps teachers to develop performance instruction and
assessment tasks supported by technology which, in turn, help students to
prepare for classroom, state, and national selected response and
constructed response assessments.
